During March 19th through March 21st, select Level artists will join us in sharing their stories through the creation of editorial content centered around a song of their choice.

What is Level Open Sessions?
Level is a new distribution platform for independent musicians. As a part of our ongoing initiative to spotlight emerging talent, we began Level Open Sessions: ATX and followed up with Level Open Sessions: NYC. Open Sessions is designed to pair up-and-coming independent musicians with a best-in-class creative team to create together.
When and where is Open Sessions?
Level Open Sessions: SXSW 2020 will take place from Thursday, March 19th through Saturday, March 21st in Austin, Texas. You must be in Austin and available during these dates to participate.
How are artists selected?
Only Level artists are eligible to apply. Not on Level yet? Join now for free.
We will review all requests and select those who we believe will best utilize the Open Sessions format. We strongly encourage you to be as detailed as possible with what you hope to accomplish in your performance session so that we can best assess your request. We hope these sessions will be productive and fun at the same time. Please refer to our Official Rules for more information.
Is it free?
Yes, it’s entirely free to the artists who are selected to participate in Open Sessions. Selected artists are responsible for their own travel and accommodations.
What do I need to include in my request?
Just fill out the request form.
When will I hear back?
Due to the volume of applicants, we will only reach out to those who are selected to participate in Level Open Sessions. Those selected can expect to hear back on or around February 17.
What’s provided at the Open Sessions?
A full creative team including an in-house sound lead will be there to work with you during your Open Session.
Do I need to bring my own gear?
Depending on your setup, you’ll need to bring along your band members, laptop, instruments, and backing tracks. No backline will be provided as part of Open Sessions.
What type of content will be captured during these sessions?
We will have a team to capture these sessions and share to Level’s social media channels in real time. You’ll be free to utilize the material (i.e. interviews, photos, and videos) produced by Level once they’re finalized.
Does Level own the rights to any recordings I create during these sessions?
Any photographic, audio, and video content captured by the Level team during these sessions will be owned by Level. You will need to review and agree to a release agreement as part of the program. You must own 100% of the rights to any material performed as part of Open Sessions. Our team is here to answer any questions you may have and will help guide you through the process.
I am not a U.S. resident, can I still submit?
Open Sessions is currently only open to U.S residents. We hope to bring future programs to all Level artists in the near future.
Will Open Sessions be available in other locations?
Future opportunities and locations will be announced as they become available.
